About us

We are Kath and Steve and both have a love of walking and the outdoors.

Many years ago we sat on the balcony of the Godrevy Beach Cafe in Cornwall and looked at the campervans parked outside saying 'Wouldn't a campervan be lovely'.  At the time we couldn't afford to buy one, so we've camped and then had a caravan, but have always wanted our campervan. On 19th October 2016 we placed our order for a VW California Ocean and had a build date of week beginning 6 March 2017 - an extra special time for us as we celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary that week.

When we caravanned I always used to take a photograph of our pitch on the site and kept a log of where we had visited, our thoughts about the sites and whether we would return.  Friends have said they're interested to hear of our travels, so I've started this blog to share our photographs and site information of our Cali travels.

This photo shows the 'Try Before You Buy' campervan on the Minnows Touring Park in September 2016.  We made a late booking and had Pitch 1 which was between the site office and recycling area.  Although it wasn't one of the prettiest pitches, it was in a quieter area of the site as there is a busy road behind some of the pitches.  We thought the best pitches were on The Shelf, which back onto the canal.  The site was clean and tidy and had very good toilet blocks and dishwashing areas.  The site staff were friendly and helpful - even telling us we could park sideways in the pitch if we wished to do so.  A recommended site and one where we will return.

Our campervan, known at Cali, arrived home on 19 April 2017.

Cali has been amazing and we've had many holidays and weekend breaks since owning her - the only restriction on our travels has been work.  Although we love Cali we made the decision that when we start to do more travelling following our retirement, a campervan without a pop-up but with a fixed bed and toilet would suit our needs better.  With that in mind we started our search and in late January 2020 we placed an order for a Hymer Ayres Rock, which will give us all that we need.  We are part-exchanging Cali for our new vehicle and will be sad to see her go but it's the right decision and we're excited about our new campervan.  We placed our order in January 2020 and should have had delivery in July, but Covid intervened and there was a slight delay.  We finally collected Zebedee (so named as the registration is ZBD) on 4 September 2020 - perfect for our travels when Steve retires in 2021.

We have loved our travels in Zebedee, but as we're now going away for longer periods we often wish we had a little more storage that is easier to access.  The transverse bed in Zeb can also be a challenge with nocturnal toilet trips!  After much searching and a trip to the NEC to look at different vehicles and layouts, we placed an order for a Malibu 640 LEK GT in April 2022.  After several delays we finally took delivery on 4 September 2023, exactly three years after collecting Zeb.  Our new van is named Martha as we had seen a campervan with the name 'Martha and The Van Dwellers' on one of our trips and it made us smile each time we saw it.
